OUR

PARTNERSHIP

WITH THE

SANTA CRUZ BREAKERS

Its with great excitement we can announce that AFC in partnership with Breakers FC will be one of the founding members of the North Western Conference of the Girls Academy League.

The partnership will allow both Clubs to synergize their efforts to provide Elite level girls programs for their members. Our teams will compete locally from U14 to U19 and have the opportunity to attend regional and national showcase events to compete against some of the top programs in the Country.

The Girls Academy League is structured with the holistic development of the girls in mind and will allow players to continue to play in their Club & High School teams.

Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, we continue to work to provide development opportunities and pathways for our players to reach the highest level of the game.

  • What should my child wear? What do they need to bring?
Players should wear sports attire, soccer cleats, socks and shin guards. They need to bring a soccer ball and water.
  • What should I expect on try out day?
All players will participate in a competitive style training session. This will involve technical drills, 1 v 1 games and a small sided scrimmages.
  • Why is my son/daughter wearing a number?
So coaches can identify who is who. Coaches have a list of players and numbers, this allows coaches to make notes on every player trying out.
  • How are the groups formed?
The groups are formed by year of birth and gender.
  • Should I do anything to prepare my child ahead of time?
You can encourage your child to practice their skills at home. Even 10 mins practice with a ball every day will make a big difference in their development. Tell them to relax, try their best, and most importantly smile and have fun!
  • When will I hear back if my son/daughter made the comp team?

While not mandatory, It is highly encouraged.
  • When does each competitive soccer team begin and end their seasons?
AFC Competitive Soccer is year round and the annual calendar runs from mid July to Mid June. We take breaks over thanksgiving, 2 weeks over the Xmas holidays and 4 weeks over the summer. In addition, our entry level teams (White & Yellow) have the option not to train in December & January.
  • How many practices per week should I expect for her age group? And how many games per week?
7v7 teams train 2 days a week 9v9 and above 3 days a week All sessions are an hour and a half. There are roughly 10 league games in spring (mid March thru May) and 10 in fall (late Aug thru November). All teams will play in 3 tournaments and do a couple of scrimmages before each season. Teams generally average one game a weekend during the season but some weekends you could have two games or a tournament. Teams may enter additional tournaments (above the standard 3) over the course of the year.
  • How far are we expected to travel for the games?
The younger and entry level competitive teams play their games locally. 5 are a home (Almaden area) and 5 are away at clubs mainly in the South Bay. Once or twice a season you may need to go as far as Burlingame, Santa Cruz or Salinas. Some of the older elite and older teams may travel further based on the needs and level of the team.
